After you have chosen a health plan and completed the renewal process, you will receive a notice from NY State of Health. This notice will have information about your health insurance and financial assistance you may receive. In some cases, if you failed to pick a plan, a plan was chosen for you.
Your health plan will send you a health insurance benefit card. They will also send information about your covered services and available providers. If your coverage has a monthly premium, your health plan will tell you that cost.
If you have a dental plan through the Marketplace, you will get a separate notice with this information.
NY State of Health offers resources to help you use your health insurance , including helpful information about how it works, how to find a doctor, and the meaning of insurance terms.
Additionally, information is available for all health programs available through the Marketplace:
If your coverage has a monthly premium, you must pay the first month’s premium in order for your coverage to begin.
If you fail to pay your premium, you could lose your health insurance.
In addition to the premium, there may be other costs for care and services. Our Premium & Out-of-Pocket Cost Estimator tool can help you estimate the costs.
If you have Child Health Plus or the Essential Plan, you may switch your plan any time.
If you have a Qualified Health Plan, you may change your plan during the Open Enrollment Period or a Special Enrollment Period . A Special Enrollment Period only applies if you have certain life events, like losing health insurance (for reasons other than you did not pay your premium), moving, getting married, or birth or adoption of a child. Learn more about qualifying life events that make you eligible for a Special Enrollment Period.
Over the next year, you must tell NY State of Health about changes that could affect your eligibility for health insurance. You must tell us within 30 days about any of the following:
You can report changes online or by calling 1-855-355-5777 (TTY: 1-800-662-1220).
