Course Materials and Preparing for Your Course

Your PowerScore ACT Live Online Accelerated Course book and the Official ACT Prep Guide was shipped to you. If you do not receive the books within seven days, please contact our offices at (800) 545-1750 or by email at shipping@powerscore.com.

To begin your preparation, please log into the Online Student Area (see below for login instructions). Click on the "ACT Pre-Course Primers."

There you will find directions accompanying four PDF files--a Math Primer, English Primer, Science Primer, and a Reading Primer. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOU COMPLETE THE PRE-COURSE HOMEWORK PRIOR TO YOUR FIRST CLASS. There are important concepts in the primers that your instructor will assume everyone has read and understands. Students who do not read the pre-course primers risk falling behind during the course. We ask that parents ensure their students complete the pre-course homework prior to class.

If you have not taken an Official ACT or a practice test, you should also complete and score a timed practice test from The Official ACT Prep Guide, as explained on the web page, which requires two hours and fifty-five minutes to complete. Even if you have already taken an Official ACT or practice test, it's still a good idea to take another one.

This will allow you to analyze your strengths and weaknesses, which can help you make the most of your time in class. If you will not receive your Official ACT Prep Guide prior to the first class, you can print a practice test from The ACT website. You can download a test here:

Free Practice Test (Click Here to Download the Free Practice Test)

After completing the test, you can score it on the Online Student Center (see "ACT Practice Tests and Online Scoring" section below).

If you would like extra pre-course work, you are welcome to begin reading in The Official ACT Prep Guide, although it certainly is not required.

The Live Online course will take place in the Adobe Connect platform. You will receive an email two business days prior to the start of class containing your Adobe Connect login credentials and system setup instructions.

Each lesson is saved and stored in your Student Portal the following business day after your live lesson. You can return to these archives to review entire lessons or specific portions of the lessons so that you may customize your independent study to cover the concepts causing you the most difficulty. Your access to Adobe Connect and the archived recordings expires after the second official ACT exam following your course.

The Online Student Center

You now have access to the PowerScore Online Student Center, which is the hub for homework, detailed lesson explanations, supplements, practice tests, resources, and more. While your course books and in-class instruction are critical components of your PowerScore experience, your out-of-class efforts are equally vital to achieving a commendable score increase. Almost all of the pages can be printed for your convenience. Parents are also encouraged to explore the site.

Before your class begins, log into your Student Portal and visit the Student Center to familiarize yourself with its various sections and then plan to visit the site frequently through the course.

To access the Online Student Center

  1. Login to the PowerScore Student Portal.
  2. Click on the “My Enrollments” box.
  3. Click the link under “Online Student Center Access.”

Access to the Online Student Center expires after the second official ACT exam following your course. Be sure to take full advantage of this resource during your access period!

Online Student Center Resources

Within your Online Student Center you’ll find the following five sections. Let’s take a brief look at each:

This section contains a Course Introduction module that should be completed prior to the start of class.

Here you will find detailed, written explanations for the questions in each lesson. Your instructor will also carefully review these questions in class, but this resource is invaluable for students who want to review independently or who are absent from class.

One of the most important aspects of ACT preparation is to regularly take official practice tests and track your progress over time. Please note that this is also required for the Score Increase Guarantee. This system allows you to input your answer choices and receive an immediate evaluation of your test performance.

When testing on your own, you’ll be able to use our Virtual Proctor. This program instructs you when to begin and end each section of the test, simulating a real proctor on test day to give you the most accurate experience possible. To begin, click on "Play" and follow the vocal prompts as you are guided through the sections.

You are required to take three practice tests as a part of your course. The first test (Test #1 in The Official ACT Prep Guide) should be taken prior to the start of the course so you can generate a “Before” score. The second test (Test #3 in The Official ACT Prep Guide) should occur shortly after the completion of the course, and the third test (Test #4 in The Official ACT Prep Guide) should occur after the completion of the homework and supplements in the Online Student Center. This final test will provide you with an “After” score.

Once you’ve completed your practice test, enter your answers in our Online Test Scoring System to get a detailed performance analysis. With this feedback you’ll be able to easily identify which concepts you have mastered and which areas still require some attention, allowing you to better plan your future efforts.

To take your Pre-Course Practice Test:

  1. Click ACT Practice Tests and Take-Home Test Scoring.
  2. From the "Tests & Explanations" tab, click "Test One."
  3. To time your test, click on the "ACT Virtual Proctor" tab and click the "play" button to begin.
  4. Score your completed practice exam.

To access the Test Scoring System:

  1. Click Practice Tests and Take-Home Test Scoring.
  2. From the “Test Scoring” tab, click on “Enter Your Answers” next to the appropriate practice test and follow the directions on the scoring templates as a reference if you are unsure.
  3. Once you access the proper test, use the buttons to enter your answer choices. By selecting "Save and Grade My Answers" at the bottom of the page, you'll receive a detailed report of your strengths and weaknesses.

Your homework is also contained in the Online Student Area, and can be found under "Post-Course Homework" on the opening page. Our highest score increases occur when a student has completed all of the questions in the homework and The Official ACT Prep Guide. We ask that parents ensure their students complete the homework after course.

The homework is required for the Score Increase Guarantee, but will not be reviewed by your instructor or PowerScore unless you request a repeat of the course due to the lack of a sufficient score increase.

The Online Student Center also includes additional resources, such as ACT Math and English Flash Cards and additional practice questions. These supplements are not required as a part of your homework, but offered for students who are seeking maximum score increases and those who are willing to go above and beyond in their test preparation.
