At LATAM Airlines, pet owners are requested to make arrangements for pet travel at least 48 hours prior to their flight. To guarantee availability, it is highly recommended to request this service as soon as you've made your booking by calling the Customer Service Team at 866-435-9526. Furthermore, a certificate from a veterinarian is required, issued no more than 10 days prior to the flight, to confirm that your pet is in good health and fit for travel.
Pets, such as dogs or cats, are allowed in the cabin on LATAM Airlines provided they, along with their carrier, do not exceed 15 lbs (7 kg). Pets must be at least 8 weeks old, or over 4 months for travel to the United States. The charges for carrying pets in cabin vary based on the destination, ranging from 200 R for flights within Brazil to $250 for all other international flights.
Pets that are older than 8 weeks can also be transported in the aircraft hold. The maximum weight limit for pets and carriers on routes to/from Europe, Oceania, Argentina, and Aruba, or on connections with IB, BA, QF, and AC, is 70 lbs (32 kg). For other destinations, the weight limit is 100 lbs (45 kg). The airline permits a maximum of 2 adult dogs of a similar size in the hold, weighing up to 30 lbs (14 kg) each, and up to 3 puppies from the same litter, up to 6 months old, in the same carrier. Pricing for this service varies based on the size of the pet and the flight route.
There are specific size requirements for carriers. For cabin travel, hard-sided carriers can have maximum dimensions of 14" x 13" x 7.5" (36 cm x 33 cm x 19 cm), while soft carriers can be up to 14" x 13" x 9" (36 cm x 33 cm x 23 cm). In case your pet travels in the hold, the carrier dimensions must not exceed 118" (300 cm). The carrier should be durable, well-ventilated, and secure enough for the pet. It should also have adequate space for air circulation and be large enough for your pet to lie down comfortably.
However, it is crucial to be aware of the restrictions and limitations LATAM Airlines imposes. For the safety of pets, short-muzzled breeds of dogs and cats, along with several other breeds, are not allowed to travel in either the cabin or the hold of the aircraft. This policy includes a number of breeds such as Affenpinscher, Bulldog (all breeds), Rottweiler, and American Staffordshire Terrier (Amstaff) among others.
Bear in mind that air carriers can modify these policies at any time. Therefore, you should always check directly with the airline you are traveling on, before you book, for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
